Where are you located?

We are located in The Hill neighborhood. Our address is 2151 59th Street, St Louis, Mo. 63110, just south of I-44 off Hampton Avenue. You can find a map of our location here.

What are your hours?

Due to COVID we are currently open for adoption visits by appointment only. Please email us at animalhouse@stlcats.org to request an appointment.

Where do your cats come from?

Some of our cats are stray, abandoned or neglected cats and kittens who have been rescued from a dangerous life on the streets. Others are at-risk cats that are transferred to Animal House through a cooperative partnership with other shelters, rescues, and high-euthanasia animal control facilities.

Where do you get your funding?

Animal House is funded through private donations and adoption fees. We do receive some private and corporate grants as well, but we rely on the generosity of caring individuals for the majority of our funding. We do not receive any government support.

Is Animal House a no-kill adoption center?

At Animal House, we work hard to save the lives of all the cats in our care and then find them loving, forever homes. There is no limit on how much time or money we invest in a cat who has a good chance at a good life. Animal House does not euthanize for space or time and often is able to provide medical and behavioral care for cats that other shelters may not have the resources to help. This does not mean that Animal House never euthanizes. Our medical team may determine that euthanasia is the most humane option for a sick or injured cat when the cat is suffering and death in imminent.

Can I call you for more information about a specific cat I saw on Facebook or Petfinder?

At this time we are not able to answer phone inquiries about specific cats. If you are interested in adopting, please email us at animalhouse@stlcats.org to start the adoption process.

Can you tell me if a certain cat is still available?

Our adoptable cat listing is available on petfinder.com and adoptapet.com. However, our inventory of cats and kittens available for adoption is constantly changing. We do not hold cats for adoption nor can we guarantee when or if a specific cat will be available. We can guarantee that at any point in time there are many wonderful cats in our shelter waiting to meet their new family.

Do you ever get purebred cats?

Occasionally, but we cannot predict when or if cats of a specific breed will be available. You can see our adoptable cats at petfinder.com or adoptapet.com

I am no longer able to keep my cat. Will you take him?

Our focus is at-risk, sick, injured or neglected stray or abandoned cats. We must place priority on those cats that otherwise have no one to care for them.

I found a stray cat. Will you take her?

Admissions are handled according to shelter space and resources. Please email us at animalhouse@stlcats.org and let us know about the cat’s situation.

What can I do if I have lost or found a cat?

Please visit our lost cats page for more information.

My cat is in need of emergency care. Can I bring her to you?

Animal House is not set up to be an emergency clinic and cannot assist with emergency care. The following animal hospitals offer 24/7 emergency medical care:

Veterinary Specialty Services

Animal Emergency Clinic
